Further Mathematics
What specification is proposed?
Edexcel Further Mathematics.
The work covered is an extension of work studied for A Level Mathematics. Topics you will learn include complex numbers, matrices, equations of motion, and probability distributions.
A mixture of pure and further pure topics must be completed.
What will I be covering in the course in Year 12?
Pure Maths: complex numbers, sequences and series, graphs, trigonometry
Further Pure Maths: modular arithmetic, groups, recurrence relations, matrices
What will I be covering in the course in Year 13?
Pure Maths: calculus, vectors and matrices, proof
Further Pure Maths: modular arithmetic, groups, recurrence relations, matrices
How will I be assessed?
The A Level in Further Mathematics will be assessed by four examinations at the end of year 13.
What can I do with this subject?
Studying Further Mathematics is excellent preparation for university, especially if you wish to study any mathematics related subject such as the sciences, engineering, computing, accountancy, financial mathematics or mathematics itself.
Many leading universities are now specifying A Level Further Mathematics as an entry requirement, along with A Level mathematics, for such courses.
