Setting information: Sept 2020 onwards
For organisational purposes, students are divided into two parallel (mixed prior attainment) bands named T and G. The students in each band are divided into teaching groups, the size of which vary in different subjects. For example, some practical lessons have smaller groups than non-practical lessons.
Organisation of teaching groups within a band varies between different subjects. Teachers recognise that all students learn in different ways and at different rates. Even within subject areas, student patterns of learning are individualised and not necessarily uniform across topic areas. Consequently, all teachers plan lessons carefully to support all students.
Option subjects do not have attainment sets in any year group.

Ebacc subjects (English, Mathematics, Science, Modern Foreign Languages and History / Geography
The names of teaching groups in English, Mathematics and Science are not indicated by number; instead initials are linked to great writers, mathematicians and scientists.
English and Mathematics
Students in year 7 are taught in mixed attainment groups in English and Mathematics. In years 8 and 9, students are taught in two broad streams. Students will cover the same curriculum and complete the same learning checks and assessments which allow all students to study the curriculum, free from any bias that may be associated with a setting hierarchy. From year 10, there is some setting in Mathematics as they approach their terminal examinations. Staff and subject leaders review setting and streaming arrangements regularly to ensure that provision is appropriate.
All students are taught Biology, Chemistry and Physics in mixed attainment groups in years 7 and 8. They will then choose either the ‘trilogy’ or ‘separate science route’ from year 9 onwards and will continue to be taught in mixed attainment groups.
Modern Foreign Languages
Students are taught French / German / Spanish in mixed attainment groups in years 7 & 8. In year 9, all students have the opportunity to study a second further language as part of their choice of specialisms. There is broad streaming in some language classes from year 9 onwards. However, students are taught the same curriculum and both Foundation and Higher candidates are catered for in all classes.
History and Geography
Students are taught in mixed attainment groups from year 7-11 in these subjects.
