Matt Ling – Winner, Northfield Music Festival

On Saturday 9 May, Matt Ling in Year 8 performed in the Northfield Music Festival in Kings Heath. This competition attracts some of the most advanced young musicians in the West Midlands.

Matt performed in the open category for pupils aged 12 to 13. The standard of the competition was exceptionally high, with many competitors playing at diploma and undergraduate level.

Matt gave an exceptional performance of Manuel de Falla’s virtuoso violin piece, Danse Espagnole, a piece that demonstrates a wide range of advanced techniques. The adjudicator commented on his superb technical ability and tremendous variety in tone and sound.
