It has been a very busy start to the term in the Music Department with the first workshop of the year already taking place.  On September 17, James Jones and Heather Howell returned to TG for the second time to run our annual choral day(s).  Over 300 pupils took part in the day, and some superb talent was on show.  James, who was leader of the National Children’s Choir of Great Britain for many years, was delighted by the talent on show and was very encouraging to our pupils.

There has been tremendous development in singing at TG over the past 18 months and we now have 3 choirs.  Year 7 will get the opportunity to take part in events and concerts as part of their year group choir, and we have even invited a couple of pupils to join the Chamber Choir which is the most exclusive of all TG ensembles and the only one which requires an audition process.

We decided to expand the choral day this year to include local primary schools and were delighted to welcome 90 children from St Alphege to take part on Sept 19.  Year 8 to 13 will get their own chance to experience this course in the coming months.  Perhaps next year we can expand this to a community event – parents and teachers, start warming up!
