Design and Technology ppt Curriculum Choices 2020

Please see below some information about the course covered during Key Stage 4. You will also find more information about the knowledge and skills covered booklet in a hyperlink below.  During each half-term your child will have regular ‘learning checks’ to assess how well they are progressing against the expected standards. If they do not reach the expected standard in any of these checks, they should be seeking help from their teacher regarding the best possible steps. Teachers will also be sharing with students examples of how to go beyond the expected standards ‘and providing additional challenge.

KS4 Subject Information for Parents / Students


Subject: Design & Technology GCSE


GCSE Exam board: Eduqas


Assessment structure:

  • 50% Non Exam Assessment, 50% Exam – Both taken in Year 11


Key content:


Year 9 & 10

5 skills projects designed to give students a breadth of experiences within the subject covering all material areas:

  • Woods
  • Metals
  • Plastics
  • Electronics
  • Textiles


Different elements of the projects will be teacher assessed throughout the year.


Additional theory content delivered within the projects.  Students will also have a term devoted solely to theory during year 10.


Year 11: Non Exam Assessment

Final Deadline for Non Exam Assessment:  Spring term.
