Please see below some information about the course covered during Key Stage 4. You will also find more information about the knowledge and skills covered booklet in a hyperlink below.  During each half-term your child will have regular ‘learning checks’ to assess how well they are progressing against the expected standards. If they do not reach the expected standard in any of these checks, they should be seeking help from their teacher regarding the best possible steps. Teachers will also be sharing with students examples of how to go beyond the expected standards ‘and providing additional challenge.

KS4 Subject Information for Parents / Students

In GCSE Business Studies you will investigate many different businesses ranging from small enterprises to large multinationals throughout the course, developing many transferable skills.

Regardless of the career you pursue after school or university, it is useful to have some business knowledge and an understanding of how businesses are run. It is also useful to be able to read and understand financial information, understand the different pay options open to you and how the law protects you when you are at work. These are life skills that you will learn as part of the course.

Business Studies is very skills based and you will learn how to analyse business issues by looking at different decisions from lots of different viewpoints and considering the impact on different groups. You will also work on justifying your opinion, identifying what action you think is best for the business and being able to explain why. You will also develop your numeracy skills by analysing accounts and using financial ratios to help you make decisions on the best way forward for a business.

There is no coursework, this qualification consists of two examinations:

Paper 1 – Influences of Operations and HRM on Business Activity
