Exam Contingency Notice for Parents: Year 11 and Year 13
The GCSE and A Level awarding bodies have designated Wednesday 24th June 2020 as a contingency day for all examinations across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The purpose of the contingency day is to provide an alternative day in the event of a national or local disruption to an external examination. It is not a day for a student to repeat an examination or to sit a previously scheduled examination which may have been missed through illness or other absence.
Occasionally families book holidays after the scheduled exam window in the belief that all exams are finished. While there has not been a need as yet to use the contingency day for any emergency situation, parents are advised that all students in Years 11 and 13 should be available to sit an examination up to 24th June should the contingency plan be invoked by an exam board. Schools are obliged to advise that if students are not available on this day then this is at parental discretion and that they would assume full responsibility for their son / daughter not completing the qualification.
