I hope your son/daughter’s examination preparation is going well and that after much hard work they will enjoy a pleasant summer. The students will attend their normal timetabled lessons until Friday 17th May. From Monday 20th May they will be on study leave and will only be expected to attend sixth form for their exams and any subject specific revision sessions. Students who are resitting AS exams or Core Maths, or who have Language Speaking Exams before study leave starts may have the day before and day of their exams to revise if they wish, and are not expected to attend their lessons if they would prefer to revise at home.
It is essential that on arriving in the academy to sit an exam, the students first register using their student card at one of the points in the academy. They must then make their way to the appropriate location to sit the exam. Upon completing the exam, they must sign out using their student card before they leave the academy site. The students must follow these requirements due to safeguarding and fire regulations.
During the exam period, there will be times when teachers will arrange extra support for students. Students attending those sessions must follow the above signing in and out procedures.
A Level Results
A level results will be available on Thursday 15th August. Results will be issued in Oak reception between 8.00am and 10.00am. Senior staff will be available to give students advice and assistance regarding their results and university or other applications. Results may only be given to the student in person or to an adult, over 18 years of age, who they have nominated. This person will need to present a note from the student authorising them to collect their results and identification, such as a driving licence or passport. If you wish the results to be posted home please provide Oak reception with a stamped, self-addressed envelope.
Apprenticeship and Employment Confirmations
For students who do not require UCAS advice, members of the senior team will be on hand to support all decision making regarding destinations. Students holding offers from multiple routes will need to decide on this day which to pursue.
University Entrance; confirmation of places and clearing
In preparation for confirmation of places students must ensure that:
- Their contact details with UCAS are correct and up to date.
- They notify UCAS of any changes to the examinations they have taken (for example change of exam board or subjects).
- They have their personal ID, user name and password available.
Students will be able to view on ‘Track’ from around 8 am on 15th August to see whether they have had a place confirmed by either their ‘firm’ or ‘insurance’ university choice. In the event of being unsuccessful and not receiving confirmation of a place, Track will show them as being eligible for ‘Clearing’. If students wish to use Clearing, they must contact the universities by telephone in the morning to see if they will offer them a place on a course they are interested in. Course vacancy information is published by UCAS and is also available online by searching for “Clearing List 2019”.
I, along with members of the leadership team, will be available throughout the day on Friday 16th August and the following week to offer help and advice to students to ensure that they are successful in achieving positive placements.
The deadline for applications for student finance is 24th May. If your son/daughter is going to university they are urged to make their student finance application as soon as possible. Students who have already made an application need to ensure that they receive a confirmation letter together with declaration which must be signed and returned to Student Finance England. If you need to telephone Student Finance England their non-premium rate number is 0141 243 3600.
All year 13 students must return any text or library books to Oak Hall on Tuesday 25th June from 3.30pm – 4.30pm. Please ensure that all resources are returned as these are valuable for next year’s students.
Year 13 End of Year Prom
This event will take place at The Limes Country Lodge Hotel, Forshaw Heath Road, Earlswood B94 5JZ on Wednesday 26th June from 7.00pm – 11.00pm. This promises to be a lovely evening for the students to celebrate the end of their two years in the sixth form. If your son/daughter has not yet purchased their ticket these can be paid at a cost of £30 via Parentpay before Friday 3rd May.
I look forward to seeing your son or daughter on A level results day if not before and wish them all the very best for success in their exams. It has been my pleasure to be their Director of Sixth Form.
